Bruce Ackley, Distribution Manager, oversees the CompuMentor Software
Program. In his 'other life' Bruce is a saxophonist with the critically
acclaimed Rova Saxophone
Quartet. He also leads a trio called "Actual Size" that performs
his compositions.
Amy Anner, Associate Events Manager.
Dennis Banks, Operations Manager, is a second generation
San Franciscan. Dennis' eclectic background includes retail, visual
merchandising, nursery (plant) and office coordination. He is an
artist and owns a catering company called An Occasional Affair.
Jennifer Beckett is the Resource Director for CompuMentor's
information technology consulting services. She has extensive experience consulting with
for-profit and nonprofit organizations in the US as well as South and Southeast Asia. Her
areas of expertise include project management, strategic planning and evaluation. She has
an MBA in International Business and an MBA in Linguistics.
Daniel Ben-Horin, CompuMentor's founder and President, is a longtime computer consultant, journalist and administrator. He was the director of Media Alliance in San Francisco from 1980-84. His articles have appeared in the New York Times, The Nation, Redbook, MacWorld and numerous other publications.
Maggie Beretz, Human Resources Manager, is also a minister, ordained by the United Church of Christ. In addition to her duties at CompuMentor, she conducts weddings and commitment ceremonies around the Bay Area. Her Web site is: www.ministermaggie.com
Greg Beuthin has been a Tech Consultant with CompuMentor since 1996, and has a broad background in managing information technology in nonprofits. He is also a multi-disciplinary performing artist, with ten years of percussion experience (most recently with the SF-based band Santero) and an MFA in Playwriting from SFSU.
Gayle Samuelson Carpentier, is Business Development Director
for TechSoup.
Before coming to CompuMentor, she ran her own media services firm,
and headed sales and marketing for The Healthcare Forum and for
the San Francisco Business Times. Gayle's husband runs a small yacht
charter company (www.vycyachtcharters.com)
and helps her raise their nearly nine-year-old son, John.
Richard Collins is the Manager of Information Systems.
John Blair, Senior Associate, manages CompuMentor's internal information systems. He provides consulting, training, and technical support to staff and project members. John has worked with CompuMentor for five years, and has also been participating in a graduate program in Cognitive Science.
Mary Duffy, Senior Program Manager of New Programs, brings 20 years of experience working as a manager, director, and consultant for nonprofit organizations. She runs her own consulting business, and serves as a faculty member in the Institute for Nonprofit Organization Management at the University of San Francisco. Before entering the world of IT Mary worked as a mountaineering and whitewater rafting guide where she learned how to deal with change and what to do when you're lost - both invaluable skills when dealing with technology.
Phil Ferrante-Roseberry, Executive Director, joined CompuMentor in 1995 as a project manager after a software engineering career in Massachusetts, San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Phil's relationship with CompuMentor goes back to the early 90s when he was one of our volunteer 'mentors'; in fact, it was a CompuMentor match that introduced Phil to his wife, Lydia, who was the executive director of small organization with big computer problems. Phil and Lydia and their two cats (Dana and Rumi) now live in a cohousing community in downtown Oakland.
Bennett Grassano is an Associate Director of Development.
Catherine Hurd is a grantwriter.
Eric Leland, Senior Program Manager, has worked with nonprofit advocacy
organizations to develop their Internet strategy and offers web
and database design through his company Leland
Design. Eric is involved in international human rights advocacy,
and offline is an avid cyclist and potter.
Mark Liu, Ph.D., Program Director, manages CompuMentor's
client Mentor Matching, and staff based consulting programs. He
has over 20 years of experience in software development and consulting
at Sun Microsystems, Andersen Consulting and other companies. Mark
has worked with a broad variety of clients, including nonprofits,
large and small businesses and government agencies.
Jim Lynch is CompuMentor's Senior Program Manager for Computer
Recycling and Reuse. Jim helped design and launch a collaborative
project with Microsoft this year to distribute Windows operating
systems to computer refurbishers across the country. He is also
undertaking a comprehensive body of research, coordination, and
hands-on projects to deepen public knowledge in the field of computer
reuse and refurbishing to discover how an immense wasted resource
can be reclaimed for use by schools, nonprofits and low-income people.
During his seven years at CompuMentor, Jim has has built and maintained
our resource list of local, national, and international computer
recyclers on the CompuMentor and TechSoup web sites. He was also
CompuMentor's development director for three years. He has been
known for some time as an authority on the subject of computer recycling
and nonprofit technology and has been recently interviewed by National
Public Radio, CNET radio, Fox TV, NBC TV, San Francisco Chronicle
newspaper, San Jose Mercury News, Salon.com, Philanthropy News Network,
Chronicle of Philanthropy, Nonprofit World Magazine, and other media

Jody Mahoney currently serves as the Development Director
for CompuMentor. Prior to CompuMentor, Ms. Mahoney managed a consulting
practice targeting small and medium size nonprofits in the areas
of fund development, earned income strategies, technical assistance,
and grantwriting. She is an experienced writer, and has developed
web content, business plans, marketing communications and federal,
state, private foundation and corporate grants for an array of clients.
Her previous positions include sales and sales management for technology
companies including Compaq Computer and Digital Equipment Corporation.
Ms. Mahoney holds an MFA in writing from the Program for Writers
at Warren Wilson College, and a BA with an emphasis in writing from
Antioch College.
Franziska Marks, Public Relations Specialist, is the point
person for media inquiries at CompuMentor. With several years of
experience in the PR agency world, she is responsible for increasing
CompuMentor's visibility in the "outside world." When not at work,
she enjoys translating from and into her mother tongue German, volunteering
with "Little Brothers of the Elderly," and taking long walks on
the beach.
Rebecca Masisak is the General Manager for TechSoup Stock.
John McDermott, Senior Accountant, has run finance and operations
for several consumer-oriented tech companies in the Bay Area. When
not cooking the books, he is usually writing, watching sports or
chasing his two hyperactive wiener dogs.
Elizabeth Curley O'Malley comes to us with years of project
management and 'accidental techie' experience in the nonprofit arena.
She also spent some time in the technology world developing partnerships
for a portal site. Currently, Elizabeth is TechSoup's
Project Manager. In her spare time, she likes to build and upholster
furniture.
Antonio Quinn, Financial Advisor, considers himself the legitimate King of Bongo.
Erick Recinos-Rosas, Project Manager, has over twelve years experience in nonprofit management and program development in the US and Latin America. A multimedia artist and performer, he currently fronts the Rock en Español group, Santero.
Matthew Schaefer is a Web Developer for TechSoup.
Michael Schrecker, Senior Program Manager, has a background working
with technology in education, non-profits and industry. Musician,
artist, tinkerer. Has as much fun disassembling things as he does
creating them.
Helen Seal, Technology Consultant, has volunteered and worked for nonprofits
in San Francisco since moving here in 1996. When not exploring solutions
to nonprofit technology problems, Helen likes nothing better than
curling up with a good book and a glass of California wine.
T. Lynn Stott is the director for TechSoup.org. She brings to TechSoup rich experience in web business strategy, user experience design, and information architecture. Her background includes being a university professor (she has a Ph.D. in Religion & Anthropology), starting user experience practices at Pacific Gas & Electric Company and World Savings Bank, and consulting with business, non-profits, and education via her own user experience consulting firm, Vivid Think.
Tim Suttle is the Systems Administrator.
Susan Tenby, Community Manager, brings research experience to CompuMentor from her background in library work, and writing experience from her graduate studies in Literary Theory. She provided content development and Web research for the launch of TechSoup, CompuMentor's technology portal project. She now produces the TechSoup Community message boards. Susan has lived in San Francisco for eleven years, practices Astanga Yoga and occasionally dreams of joining the Cirque du Soleil.
Karen Thomas, Consulting Services Analyst, received her
BA in liberal arts from JFK University. She's recently discovered
the joys of fine art printmaking.
Marnie Webb, Technology Consultant, has experience in integrating technology in schools, Web design and system administration. She is also a fiction writer and avid Internet user.
Dara Westling is the Manager of Strategic Partnerships for
TechSoup.
Sandra Whisler came to CompuMentor as Director of TechSoup and is now CompuMentor's Managing Director. She has more than 15 years nonprofit management experience, most recently as director of electronic publishing at the University of California Press. She enjoys process painting and is an avid gardener.
Fresh! White, Senior Program Manager, Mentor Matching &
Events, loves walking her dog on the beach. She also performs in
drag to support the funding of local area non-profits.
